Ellen Dorothy Hackett
Ellen Dorothy Hackett (nee Boerner), 91, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2026. Born on July 19, 1934, in Cedarburg, Wisconsin, Ellen was a proud Green Bay Packers fan whose warmth and steady strength shaped every life she touched.Ellen attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she met William (Bill) Hackett. They were married on May 8, 1954, beginning a marriage that would span 64 years until Bill’s passing on March 2, 2015. Ellen remained a steadfast and caring wife, especially in Bill’s final years, reflecting her deep loyalty and strength of character.Together they raised three children: Steve (Kristen), Laurie Agel (Bill), and Cheryl Jeter (Michael). Ellen was the proud grandmother of seven – Andrea, Kate, Matt, Jenn, Robert, Katie, and Caroline – and the great-grandmother of Eleanor.Ellen devoted many years to creating a home filled with love and sublime pies, cookies, and “Grandma’s Bread”. In retirement, she continued a life of service and community involvement, becoming an active member of Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Rocky Mount, Virgina, and volunteering faithfully with the Carilion Franklin County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.She was an avid puzzler and game player, as well as a phenomenal quilter who lovingly crafted personalized quilts for each of her children and grandchildren.Ellen was a beautiful soul, inside and out. Her life was marked by love, compassion, and emotional strength. Her kindness was quiet but powerful, and her legacy lives on in the gentleness and resilience she instilled in her family.Her smile will be deeply missed and she will forever be remembered.A memorial mass will be held in Rocky Mount, Virginia, in the Spring.
