Alvin Frank Spencer
Alvin Frank Spencer, of Pamplin, Virginia, passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 21, 2026, at the age of 101.
Born on June 5, 1924, in Paw Paw, Michigan, Alvin was the son of the late Homer Dwight Spencer and Jessie Marion Ardella Ruse Spencer. As a young boy, he moved with his family from Michigan to Virginia, where he would spend the remainder of his life.
Alvin met and fell in love with Lizzie Cleere Harris. The couple married on November 19, 1951, and built a simple, meaningful life together on their beautiful farm. They shared 61 devoted years of marriage until her death in 2013. Though they had no children of their own, their home was richly blessed with the love and laughter of many nieces and nephews.
Alvin was a welder by trade and a gifted musician who enjoyed playing guitar and dobro with friends Lewis Harvey, Billy Hodges, James Womack and Perry Mobley, also known as Old Country and the Soilbankers. He will be remembered for his steady work ethic, quiet strength, and love of music and family.
In addition to his parents, Alvin was preceded in death by his beloved wife and his siblings: Dorothy Ann Spencer, Elmer William Spencer, Robert J Spencer, Thelma Mae Spencer, Mary Ellen Spencer.
He is survived by two sisters-in-law, Nancy Harris of Pamplin and Patricia Harris of Hopewell, Virginia, as well as nieces and nephews too numerous to name, all of whom cherish his memory.
The family will receive friends on Friday, February 27, from noon until 1:00 p.m. at Robinson’s Funeral Home. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Blendon Family Cemetery in Crewe, Virginia.
