Charlene Young Merriman

Charlene Celia Merriman, 88, of Dublin, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 27, 2026, at TerraBella Senior Living in Salem, Virginia. She was born on December 4, 1937, in Martinsville, Virginia, to the late Wilbur Young and Gracie Newman Young.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jimmie R. Merriman, Sr., and her sister, Betty Dobbs.

Charlene was a hardworking and dedicated woman who faithfully spent many years employed with Bassett Furniture, where she was known for her strong work ethic and commitment. She valued family, perseverance, and living a life rooted in care and responsibility for those she loved.

Left to cherish her loving memory are her son, Randy Merriman (Linda); her grandson, Jason Merriman (Stacy); and two great-grandsons, Parker Merriman and Jacoby Merriman. She is also survived by her brother, Donnie Young (Barbara); brother-in-law, Jerry Merriman (Elaine); nephew, Brandon Young (Mandy); and niece, Vickie Morris (Darrell), along with a host of extended family and friends who will forever treasure her memory.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Bassett Funeral Service, with Donnie Young officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.  Interment will follow at Mt. Hermon Church of the Brethren Cemetery.
