Richard (Rick) Carr Furr

October 14, 1953 - February 28, 2026

Richard (Rick) Carr Furr of Blacksburg "slipped the surly bonds of Earth" February 28, 2026. He was born October 14, 1953, in Staunton, VA. He was the son of the late Charles E. and Julia S. Furr. He was proceeded in death by his brother C. Bradford Furr. He is survived by his wife Nancy, daughter Jessica and son James Furr; and his sister Lissa Dod (Rader), niece Anne-Charles Moreau (Miller), great-nephew Mason Moreau, nephew Will Dod (Becca). He graduated from VPI and SU in 1980 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He had an interest in all electronics, but his passion was for disassembling and repairing computers and calculators. Rick was always very civic minded and as a youth achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. As an adult he became his son's Cub Scout Den Leader, Cub Master and finally Scout Leader. He coached his daughter's soccer team. He joined both the NRV Friends of the Roanoke Symphony and the Christiansburg-Blacksburg Rotary Club and served in leadership positions in both organizations. In retirement he volunteered at the Humane Society Thrift Store. Rick's family would like to thank the Good Samaritan Hospice's staff in caring for Rick and his family; and the Blacksburg Rescue Squad for coming to his aid on several occasions. The family will receive friends, Saturday, March 14, 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm in the McCoy Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 11:00 am in the Blacksburg Presbyterian Church. A reception will follow the memorial service.
