Kathryn Faries Lucas

- March 2, 2026

Kathryn Faries Lucas, 101, of Roanoke, Virginia, went peacefully home to be with her Lord and Savior, on Monday, March 2, 2026. Born May 7, 1924, in Roanoke, Va., to the late Harvey Lee and Minnie Florence Medley Faries, she is also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Franklin Lucas; daughter-in-law, Vickie Lucas; son-in-law, Jerry Curry; great-grandson, Dakota Curry; as well as five brothers and one sister.
Kathryn grew up during the Great Depression, attended Andrew Lewis High School and loved to talk about what it was like to live through 100 years of history, such as World War II. She married Thomas Lucas on January 23, 1942, and lived, laughed and loved and raised their family together for 46 years, until his passing. Kathryn was the last living charter member of Faith Assembly of God in Salem. She greatly loved the Lord, served Him faithfully and fully and set an exceptional example of God's love to everyone who knew her. Kathryn enjoyed crocheting, canning, cooking, reading The Guide Post magazine, and listening to Gaither Homecoming music. She enjoyed going to the beach and went every year until she was 100 years old. Above all, she adored her family and loved the time spent with them.
Those remaining to cherish her memory are her daughters, Sheena Curry and Debbie Dulgher and husband, Dan; son, Gary "Butch" Lucas; nine wonderful grandchildren; 25 adored great grandchildren; 14 precious great-great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family will welcome friends for a time of visitation on Friday, March 6, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., in the chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., at Faith Assembly of God, 125 W. 4th Street, Salem, with Pastors LaRell Strickland and Jessie Bass officiating. Interment immediately following in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Roanoke.
The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to the staff of both Harmony Cares and Amedysis Home Health Care for their exceptional care; a special thank you to Anna Fields, NP, who was their "angel" and served Kathryn with compassionate and loving care.
