Barbara Kay Martin France
Barbara Kay Martin France, born August 7, 1949, of the Snow Creek community in Franklin County, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2026 surrounded by the love of her family, listening to her favorite music.A lifelong resident of the area she loved, Barbara was a dedicated beautician whose chair was more than a place for a haircut—it was a gathering place for laughter, stories, and connection. She built lasting friendships and took pride in helping others feel their best. Barbara was known for her quick wit, feisty spirit, and sharp sense of humor. She had a way of speaking her mind while still making you laugh, and her strength and personality left an impression on everyone she met.She was passionate about giving back to her community, especially through her involvement in fundraising for the American Cancer Society and her support of the Franklin County Humane Society. She cared deeply about both people and animals, and she lived that compassion through action.She is preceded in death by her husband, Michael “Mike” Wade France and her parents, Dorothy Bernard and James Clinton “J.C.” Martin. She is survived by her children, James and Kayla; her brothers, Earl and Johnny; Johnny’s companion Donna Essig; her extended family of brothers and sisters-in-law; many cherished nieces and nephews; and a close-knit circle of dear friends who were like family to her.Family and friends are invited to her Celebration of Life gathering at Flora Funeral Service in Rocky Mount on Saturday, March 14, 2026 from 5-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Barbara’s memory to Franklin County Humane Society's Planned Pethood Clinic, a cause close to her heart. Barbara’s laughter, strength, and unmistakable spirit will be deeply missed, but the stories, humor, and love she shared will live on in all who knew her.
