Patricia Monroe
Patricia Belle Zicafoose Monroe, age 89, of the Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation Center, Low Moor and formerly of Grafton Street, Clifton Forge died on Saturday, March 7, 2026.
She was born on August 13, 1936 in Asbury, West Virginia to the late Nelson Dana Zicafoose and Zella Jane Hayes Zicafoose. She was a 1957 graduate of C&O Hospital School of nursing and went on to become a registered nurse. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church, Clifton Forge and had many roles inside the church. She loved gardening, flowers, humming birds and cardinals.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James L. “Buck” Monroe, Jr.; two sisters, Barbara Johnson and Kathryn Thurston.
She is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Monroe Martin (Ken) of Covington; four sons, James L. Monroe III (Tammy) of Woodlawn, Va, Edward L. Monroe (Anne) of Courtland, OH, Kenneth A. Monroe of Benson, NC, David N. Monroe (Rheta) of Winston-Salem, NC; a brother, Dan Zicafoose of Lynchburg; nine grandchildren, Christopher Simmons, Nicole Simmons, Aaron Simmons, James L. Monroe IV, Dakota Shockley, Kenna Lassiter, Paul Monroe, Laurel Proser and Isabella Moore; eight great grandchildren, Dalton, Lexi, Paisley, Genevieve, Raylin, Thomas, Emmalynn, Winter; and a number of nieces and nephews
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at 2:00PM in the Chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with son, James Monroe III officiating. Interment will follow in Locust Bottom Cemetery, Eagle Rock. The family will receive friends from 12:30PM until time of service at Nicely Funeral Home.
