Linwood Eugene “Jimmy” Blunt, 98, of Lynchburg passed away Saturday, March 14, 2026 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Born in Lynchburg on September 4, 1927, he was the son of the late Arthur Blunt and Edna Duck Blunt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 72 years, Barbara Driskill Blunt.

He is survived by five daughters, Susan Blunt, Robbie Arthur (Derrick), Kay Collie (Tim), Dana Andrews and Janice Tweedy (Romain); seven grandchildren, Christine (Brandon), Kari (Chris), Shaman (Natasha), Lori, Nathan, Will and Bridget; nine great-grandchildren; and his brother, David Lee Blunt (Patricia) and their daughter, Sara Blunt.

Jimmy was a U.S. Navy veteran who served during World War II. Following his service in the Navy, his first job was as a whistle blower at the Merry Garden skating rink, where he met the love of his life, Barbara. A skilled brick mason, he worked on a number of buildings throughout Lynchburg, including E.C. Glass High School, and helped restore the fireplace at the historic McLean House at the Appomattox surrender grounds. He later worked for 23 years as a maintenance mechanic at Virginia Baptist Hospital, where he was known for his ability to repair everything from hospital beds to heart monitors.

Jimmy was also a master woodworker who enjoyed crafting tables, picture frames and other special pieces for family and friends. He proudly helped his grandson with his Eagle Scout project by building shelving units. A faithful member of Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church, he served as a trustee and generously volunteered his time on many church projects. He was also a C.B. radio enthusiast and was known on the airwaves by the handle “Maintenance Man.”

Jimmy will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, and a man who could fix or build just about anything with his hands. His quiet strength, servant’s heart and dedication to his family and community left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

A service celebrating his life and faith will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 20, 2026 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with Pastor Carlton Duck officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park with military honors provided by American Legion Post 16.
