Patricia Anne Layne Nash

Patricia Anne Layne Nash, of Clifford, passed away Thursday, March 19, 2026, with her children by her side at her home in Amherst. She was the widow of her loving husband, John Thomas Nash.

She was the beloved mother of Virginia “Ginny” Nash Zirkle, and her husband Mike of Amherst; mother of Thomas Carter Nash, and his wife Razida of Charlotte, NC; and mother of David Wayne Nash of Clifford.

She was the grandmother of Layne Michael Zirkle and his wife Abbey, and a new great-grandmother of Francine Nash; and grandmother of LeeAnne Nash Zirkle and her significant other, Parker Hylton. In 1989, Pat grieved the loss of her infant grandaughter, Brittani Layne Acomb.

Pat was born February 15, 1940 in Lynchburg, to Emory Woodson Layne and Irene Barbour Layne. She grew up on her parent’s dairy farm at Tye River, Amherst County. She was Postmaster of Clifford Post Office for twenty-seven years, retiring in 2000. 

In addition to her children and grandchildren, Pat is survived by her brother Doug Layne of Monroe, and numerous niece and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers, Preston Layne, Warren Layne, William Layne, Aubrey Layne, and Johnny Layne; and sisters, Ethel Layne, Clara Rothenberger, Betty Kidd, and Lois Hubbard.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 23, 2026 at Clifford Baptist Church with a visitation one hour prior to the service.

Pastor Mike Fitzgerald, Pastor Jeffrey Campbell, and Pastor Clyde Mawyer are officiating. Burial will follow at Amherst Cemetery.
