Patricia Ann Binkley
Patricia Ann Binkley, age 94, passed away on March 20, 2026, at the Kroontje Center in Blacksburg, Virginia. The daughter of Paul and Mary Powers, Pat was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Binkley, her brothers, Jack Powers and Thomas Powers, her son, George G. Morgan, and sons-in-law, Jeffrey Dalton and Peter McAllen. She is survived by her son, Marcus Morgan, and her daughters, Maureen Morgan and Jeanmarie Morgan as well as grandchildren Elizabeth Morgan (Mike Thomas), Joshua Morgan, Megan McAllen (Tyler Brown), Katherine Dalton (Karl Wedin), and James Morgan. She is also survived by four great grandchildren, Devin Rave, Hunter Morgan, Lilly Thomas, and Helen Thomas. Pat was born in Tucson, Arizona on March 12, 1932. Her father was a writer with a restless spirit, who eventually settled the family in Southern California, where Pat spent her life until moving to Virginia after her husband’s death in 2016. She attended UCLA before marrying and having children with her first husband, Marcus B. Morgan. In the 1970s, she began working as a proofreader for the California State University and Colleges, an organization that she continued to work for until she retired, having worked her way up to an administrative position for the Office of the Chancellor. For many years, Pat and Ted lived in Garden Grove, California in a house where family and friends gathered to enjoy competitive matches of paddle tennis, fun in the pool, and good food and drinks on the patio. Full of nervous energy, Pat was a fast walker and a natural athlete, who enjoyed racquet sports, swimming, and golf. She also loved gardening, politics, books, puzzles, and bird watching with her granddaughter Elizabeth. She was crazy about the dogs she spent her last years with, Sophie, Gracie, and Scout. Above all, she was kind, generous, and cared deeply about her family, friends, and the state of the world. She will be missed terribly. The family would like to thank those who helped care for Pat in the last years of her life, in particular, the wonderful nurses and staff of Good Samaritan Hospice. A special thank you to Teresa, Denise, and Sonu, whose kindness and compassion the family will always remember. We also feel deep gratitude for the staff at Kroontje, who cared for our mom in her final days. A celebration of Pat’s life will be held later this summer in California.
