Charlie Thomas Elixson

August 12, 1944 - March 20, 2026

Charlie Thomas Elixson, Jr., 82, peacefully passed away on March 20, 2026, following a short decline in health over the past year. He was one of six children: Harold Elixson, Betty Handler, Edwin Elixson, Irvin “Jack” Elixson, and Daisy Elixson. Born on August 12, 1944, to Charlie Thomas Elixson and Lucille Chamberlain in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. Charlie lived most of his life in Callands Virginia, with his wife, Shirley Marlow Elixson. Charlie was an active member of County Line Christian Church, where he served as an Elder and sang with the Christian Echo’s for years. Charlie dedicated 35 years of his career to Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Danville, Virginia.

Charlie was married for 60 years and has two children: Steven Elixson (Shannon) and Dawn Reed (Richard). He cherished his seven grandchildren: Magen Turner (Lea), Holley Moser (Matthew), Austin Reed (Alexis), Chad Crowley, Jenna Crowley, Autumn Hurley, and Cole Elixson. His five great-grandchildren, Boston and Grayson Turner, Noah Roberts, Kirstin and Kaidan Reed. His grandchildren brought him such tremendous joy. Charlie held a deep love for his entire family. He also valued friendships with his church family and lifelong friends. And a very special mention, Tina Perdue and Debbie Upsttaw, who came into our lives when we needed them most.

Known as the greeter, Charlie had a remarkable ability to connect with everyone he encountered. He took immense pride in welcoming everyone at church and anyone he met along the way. Engaging in conversations and making new friends brought him great joy. His favorite spot to frequent was Rubens on 41, where he knew all the ladies by name. Visiting them and savoring a generous bowl of coleslaw was the highlight of his day, as no one else could make it quite like they did. Everyone whom he greeted would break into a wide smile, embracing his warm and gentle demeanor and a gentle handshake. Charlie found great pleasure tending to the yard, cultivating stunning roses and butterfly bushes.

A celebration of life will take place at County Line Christian Church in Axton, Virginia on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. with Dean Ashby and Tim Maness officiating. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 2:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. prior to the service. At other times, the family will be available at their home. Charlie’s legacy is one of love, compassion and dedication to his family and he will be dearly missed but forever remembered by those whose lives he touched. He was a man of few words, but one with great love for life.
