Roger Wimmer, age 71, of Saltville, Virginia, passed away on March 21, 2026, surrounded by his family.Roger was a man who never met a stranger. With his warm personality and easygoing nature, he made friends wherever he went and left a lasting impression on all who knew him.He was a proud and devoted father to his son, Roger Lee Wimmer (Alicia), and his daughter, Crystal Wimmer Brooks (Jamie). His greatest joy in life was his family, and he was a loving and doting grandfather to Alyssa, Ally (Isaiah), Andrew, and Lexi, who knew him affectionately as "Granddaddy."He is also survived by his siblings, Bruce Wimmer, Melinda Wimmer, Jimmy Wimmer, and Lori Berry (Jay), as well as his nieces and nephews, Cindy, Bettina, Brett, Brad, and Amanda, and their children, all of whom he loved dearly.Roger was a traveling man at heart who loved the outdoors and found peace in nature. He enjoyed sports and had a passion for photography, always capturing moments along the way. He also gave back to his community by coaching youth soccer, where he encouraged and inspired young athletes with patience and enthusiasm. Roger spent many years working with his hands, taking pride in his work at Moore's and Home Depot across locations in Virginia and Colorado. Wherever life took him, he built connections and friendships that lasted a lifetime-earning him the nickname "Big Roger" among friends and extended family in Northern Virginia.Above all, Roger will be remembered for his deep love for his children, his pride in his grandchildren, and the kindness he showed to everyone he met. His presence will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the many lives he touched.
The family will welcome friends for a time of visitation on Friday, March 27, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., in the Upper Parlor of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem.
