Gerald "Jerry" Douglas Minter

November 30, 1949 - March 20, 2026

Gerald “Jerry” Douglas Minter, 76, of Martinsville, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2026.

Born to the late Bernard Minter and Mamie Ann Duffy Minter, Jerry lived a life grounded in love, faith, and dedication to his family. He was preceded in death by his beloved brothers, Donnie Minter and Kenny Minter, and his brother-in-law, Mike Gillenwater.

Jerry proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserves, a commitment that reflected his sense of duty and quiet strength.

He will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Barbara Gillenwaters Minter, with whom he shared 37 years of marriage and over 40 years of unwavering companionship and love. He is also survived by his brother, Michael “Mike” Minter (Gail); several nieces and nephews his sisters-in-law, Jeannie Minter and Pat Minter; his sister-in-law, Ruby Gilbert Byrd (special friend Roy Nichols); his sister-in-law, Kathy Gauldin (Randolph); and his sister-in-law, Brenda Gillenwater, all of whom will cherish his memory deeply.

A faithful man, Jerry attended and was a baptized member of Ridgeway Church of Christ. His faith was an important part of his life and guided him in his kindness and devotion to others.

Jerry had a lifelong passion for classic cars, especially his cherished 1955 Chevrolet—his very first car—which he proudly kept throughout the years. He also had a deep love for his Shelties, Maggie, Cassie, and Cody, affectionately referring to them as “his babies.” They brought him great joy and companionship.

A funeral service will be held at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at 12:00 p.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service.

Jerry will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his enduring love for his family, and the simple joys that made his life so meaningful. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
