Thomas "Steve" Stephen Giles

Thomas Stephen “Steve” Giles, age 85 of Chatham, Virginia passed away Monday, March 23, 2026 at Chatham Health and Rehab. Mr. Giles was born September 19, 1940 in Pittsylvania County to the late Cathleen Collins Giles and the late James Thomas Giles. He was married to the late Jo Ann Gibson Giles, who predeceased him in 2022.

Mr. Giles proudly served our country in the US Navy, was a devoted member of Marion Baptist Church, and was a lifelong farmer. Mr. Giles was a “sidewalk supervisor” on most all of the projects in the Chatham area. He will always be remembered as a kind and loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend to everyone who knew him.

Mr. Giles is survived by his daughter, Kim G. Van Der Hyde, and her husband Gregg, his son, Mark Giles, and his wife Wendy, his grandchildren, Katie Pifer and her husband Edward, Andrew Van Der Hyde, Zachary Giles, Mary Beth Durocher and her husband Dave, Nicole Hamlett and her husband Robert, Jeffrey Hines and Nathaniel Kurr, eight great-grandchildren; his sister, Nancy G. Jones; and his brother, John Collins Giles.

In addition to his beloved wife and parents, he was also predeceased by his brother, Nelson Page Giles

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2026, 2:00 p.m. at Marion Baptist Church with Dr. Henry M. Meadows and Dr. Bruce Croutherfield officiating. Burial will follow at the Giles Family Cemetery. A visitation will be held prior to the funeral, also at Marion Baptist Church from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. At other times the family will receive friends and family at the residence of his daughter, Kim Van Der Hyde.
