Laverne Hubbard Greene

LaVerne Hubbard Greene, 88, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2026. LaVerne was born in South Hill, VA on July 4, 1937 to late Eva Hubbard Tarpley. She was also predeceased by her loving husband of many years, Mr. James Russell Greene Sr.

LaVerne was of the Baptist Faith and a member of Union Hall Baptist Church where she was on the Usher Board at the church. She worked for many years as an extension agent for Campbell County, before eventually retiring as a Substitute Teacher for Pittsylvania County Schools. She also was a former leader of the Girl Scouts, which she really enjoyed.

LaVerne is survived by a daughter; Alberta Wimbush and husband Clifton of Danville, VA; cousins; Ernestine Feggins and family, Richard Hubbard and family, and Cladia Lundy and family; and special friends; Sylvia Woods, and Andrea and Scott Huffstetler.

In addition to Mother, Laverne was predeceased by a son; James Russell Greene Jr.

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at 1:00pm at Union Hall Baptist Church, 6860 Strawberry Road, Chatham, VA 24531 with Pastor LeRoy Thomas officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 12-1:00pm on the same day, also at the church.
