Joyce Ann Gay

Joyce Ann Gay, age 86, of Roanoke, Virginia, passed away peacefully at Carilion Hospice on Saturday, April 4, 2026. She was born in Roanoke on July 19, 1939, to the late Oliver Gordon Gay Sr. and Frances H Cummings Gay.

Joyce was a graduate of William Fleming High School, class of 1957. She held several positions of caregiving and childcare early in her career. She was a member of the Hollins Road Church of the Brethren and the Roanoke Valley Breakfast Lions Club.

She had a strong faith in God and persevered through challenging situations throughout her life. She was artistic and enjoyed all creation, especially flowers, birds and owls.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, infant brother Oliver Gordon Gay Jr., and Charles R Gay: a sister, Nancy Arlene Meadows.

Left to cherish the memories of Joyce Gay are her three sons, James Oscar Crockett Jr., Roger Alan Crockett (Ruth), and Larry Dean Crockett and fiancé Kim; granddaughter, Jamie Crockett; greatgrandchildren, Adreanna, Isiah and Elijah; sister, Wanda Lynch (Robert); several nieces, nephews and cousins. She will be greatly missed by all.

The family will receive friends Thursday, April 9, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Lotz Roanoke Chapel. There will be a graveside service held at 2:00 p.m. at Cedar Lawn Cemetery with the Rev. Harold Boyd officiating.
