Gary Randall Ramsey

January 18, 1953 - April 5, 2026

Gary Randall Ramsey, 73, of Amherst, passed away Sunday, April 5, 2026, at his residence. For forty-six years, he was the loving and devoted husband of Mavis Amanda T. Ramsey. He was the son of the late William H. and Pauline Tomlin Ramsey.

Born January 18, 1953, in Lynchburg, Gary was the founder, owner & operator of Ramsey Cabinets, Inc., having started the company in 1979. He was someone who truly never met a stranger. Gary loved people, and his larger-than-life personality truly showed that. He was the life of the party, everyone’s friend, always “working the crowd” as he’d say, all while wearing his famous smile. Gary was an avid fan of NASCAR and loved watching and camping with his son and nephew during their racing days. He loved spending his time at the beach, especially going to Ocracoke Island with his whole family for many years. Gary had a deep love and appreciation for God and all the blessings given. He was especially thankful for his life, his beloved children and grandchildren, and his dog, Belle, who was his best friend and companion. He had a knack for taking on “projects” and working on old cars. He loved music, and getting to watch his son Matthew play in his band Bigfoot County. Gary was a blessed man who thanked God every day for this life, and he will be forever missed.

In addition to his parents, Gary was also preceded in death by a brother, Larry “Buck” Ramsey and two brothers-in-law, Karl Tucker and Norman Tucker.

In addition to his wife, Gary is survived by his daughter, Susan Ramsey Bryan and husband Chris; two sons, Matthew Asa Ramsey and wife Melissa, and Drew Randall Ramsey and wife Victoria, all of Amherst; one brother, Mike Ramsey, also of Amherst; seven grandchildren, Reagan, Lathan, Stella, Ada, Cora, Eleanor, and Reid. Gary is also survived by a brother-in-law, Marcus Tucker, and a sister-in-law, Karen Tucker, both of Amherst.

A funeral service to celebrate Gary’s life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 9, 2026, at Whitten Monelison Chapel with Pastor Bob Parks officiating. Interment will follow at the Tucker Family Cemetery in Gidsville.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 8, 2026, from 6-8pm at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
