James Hazel Holcombe
James Hazel Holcombe, (Hokum) 97, began building furniture in heaven April 7, 2026.
He had been in declining health since his fall February 22nd, 2026. He was surrounded by family and friends at his home, 165 White Dr, Ringgold, Va 24586, where he requested to be.
Born September 8th, 1928 in Danville, Va. To Steven Mallory Holcombe and Annie Ruth Bolden Holcombe, where he grew up. He Graduated from George Washington High School, where in his time everyone walked to & from school daily. He will be mostly remembered for Woodcraft of Virginia on N. Main Hill where he repaired, refinished, & built Furniture from various woods selected. He was drafted into the Army National Guard in 1946, where he served as a supply sergeant. He also had numerous other jobs working in Danville Memorial Hospitals Business Dept., he owned Danville Pet Store, Danville Collection Service, and worked for Danville Post Office while working with his father building furniture. Several of his furniture pieces are currently in the White House.
He had a genuine love for his Baptist Faith and attended Schoolfield Baptist Church until the time of his fall. He sang in the Choir for about 15 years. He also served as a Deacon and a Trustee.
He still had his current Driver’s license with absolutely no tickets, no wrecks, or blemishes of any kind. He traveled over a million miles across country to California with his Wife, Carolyn, seeing family, friends and sites. He loved the beach where they moved to for 2 years to build furniture before returning to Danville permanently.
Predeceased: by his Father Steve Holcombe, Mother Ruth Holcombe, Sister Frances Black, Wife Carolyn Holcombe, Stepson Joey Bennett.
Survived by 3 daughter’s: Jeannie Moore (Bob), Karen Sheilds (Denny), Susan H Emerson, and 2 step sons: Michael Bennett (Stephanie), Brian Bennett (Julie), Grandkids: Amber Farthing (Goldy), Jordan Bennett (Jakob), Garrett Bennett(Alyssa), James Shields(Olivia) Great Grandkids: Logan Farthing, Kennedy Farthing, Zander Singh, Kamal Singh, Deacon Singh, Carson Shields, Graham Shields, Tucker Shields Niece Rhonda Seamster (Leonard).
There will be a celebration of life at Schoolfield Baptist Church located at 12 Schoolfield Dr in Danville, Va. 24541 on Wednesday April 15th, 2026 with visitation beginning at 5:30PM and memorial service officiated by Pastor David Turbyfill following at 6:30PM. At other times the family will receive friends at 165 White Dr, Ringgold, Va 24586.
In lieu of flowers send charity donations in his memory to Schoolfield Baptist Church or Ringgold Fire Dept.
