Port "Pete" O. Humphreys
Port O. “Pete” Humphreys, 78, husband of Lynne Humphreys passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.
Born on March 13, 1948, in Roanoke, Pete was a lifelong Virginian. He was the beloved son of the late F. Kemper Humphreys II and Frances "Tommie" Humphreys.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law John Hickle; his niece, Kimberly Humphreys; his nephew, Anthony Hickle; his best friend, David Davis; and his first love, Janis Arnold.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Lynne Humphreys; his stepson, Chris Elliott; his grandchildren, Jason Elliott and Hazel Elliott; and his cat, Misty. He is also survived by his brother, Frank K. Humphreys III and his wife Barbara; and his cousin, Dave Smith and his wife Deborah; brother-in-law James Hartigan Jr and his wife Debbie; sister-in-law Jeanette Hatcher and her husband Craig; nephew Andrew Hickle; niece Valerie Dimkovikj; and many extended family and friends.
Pete was a graduate of East Tennessee State University. He dedicated 30 and a half years of service to the Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice, where he made a lasting impact through his commitment to helping young people and serving his community.
Outside of his career, Pete was an active member of the Basilica of Saint Andrew. He was a NASCAR fan, had a fond appreciation for Ford Mustangs, and loved his daily work outs with friends at the Salem YMCA. He was an avid reader and patron of the Roanoke City Public Library.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 15, 2026 at Evergreen Burial Park.
