Mary Scott Guthrie

March 8, 1940 - April 9, 2026

Mary Scott Blanks Guthrie, 86, of Lynchburg, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 62 years, Douglas Guthrie.

Born March 8, 1940, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of the late Luther Clements Blanks and Adele Arthur Blanks.

Scott will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Karen Rosenblum and her husband, Lenny, of Herndon, and Brynn Guthrie and her husband, Zach Spencer, of Thousand Oaks, CA; her cherished grandchildren, Jacob Rosenblum and Lindsay Rosenblum; her brother, Wiley Blanks of Richmond and his sons Michael and Kevin Blanks; and extended family members and dear friends.

A woman of remarkable creativity and dedication, Scott approached everything she did with an eye for detail and a passion for excellence. She was a true perfectionist whose talents shone brightly through her award-winning quilting. As a proud member of the Patches ‘N Pieces Quilt Club, her intricate and beautiful work earned recognition and was featured in quilting magazines, leaving behind a legacy stitched with care, patience, and artistry.

Scott also expressed her love through baking, delighting family and friends with her homemade treats, most notably her exceptional sourdough bread, which became a signature expression of her warmth and generosity. Music was another joy in her life, and she found happiness in singing.

Above all, Scott was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother whose presence brought comfort, strength, and joy to those around her. Her life was a beautiful reflection of creativity, faith, and love.

A service celebrating her life and faith will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 20, 2026, at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Rick Foster officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at a reception in the church fellowship hall.

A graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Childrey Baptist Church Cemetery in Nathalie.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to a charity of your choice.

Scott’s legacy of love, creativity, and quiet excellence will be treasured always.
