Jessica Martin Duffy
Our beloved daughter, wife, mother and sister, Jessica Martin Duffy of Horsepasture, passed away on April 12, 2026, at the age of 41.
Jessica is preceded in death by her grandparents, Marie Craig and R.A. Henderson; and Pauline S. and C.H. Martin, Jr.
Jessica is survived by her husband, Josh Duffy; her sons, Jake and Caleb; parents, Chuck and Suzanne Henderson Martin of Martinsville; sister, Casey Martin Fanning (Matt); niece, Brynly Fanning, all of Atlanta; aunts, Amy Henderson Mize, Letitia Martin Pulliam, and Rene Martin Fretwell; uncles, Terry Martin (Kim) and Ronnie Henderson (Susan); cousins, Courtney Pulliam Gauldin, and Ty Hodges; great aunt, Margaret Craig Batson; great aunt and uncle, Martha Jane and Jack Gunter; father-in-law, Mike Duffy; brother-in-law, Matt Duffy (Ruth); nephew, Eli Duffy and niece, Delaney Duffy; and her lap cat, Larry.
Jessica was born on April 17, 1984, in Roanoke, Virginia. She was a 2002 graduate of Martinsville High School and a 2006 graduate of Radford University with a degree in interdisciplinary studies, with a certification in elementary education.
Jessica began her 20-year teaching career in kindergarten at Albert Harris Elementary in Martinsville where she met Josh. She then taught 1st grade at Carver Elementary in Henry County, followed by 5th grade at Cundiff Elementary in Roanoke County. Her family returned to the Horsepasture area and Jessica taught 5th grade at Stuart Elementary until she was no longer able.
Affectionately known as “Toots” by her grandfather, R.A. (“Pops”), she played the alto saxophone and the two of them spent many happy hours playing together, with Pops accompanying her on the guitar or the harmonica. Jessica shared a love of James Taylor with her mom while listening to his music and attending his concerts together.
Jessica’s favorite role in life was being a mom. She cherished every moment helping with homework, attending awards ceremonies, sports activities, theatre productions, musical events, and family vacations including Williamsburg and the beach.
Memorial service will be held at Norris Funeral Services, Inc. and Crematory, Martinsville Chapel at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 18th, 2026. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Norris Funeral Services.
Memorials can be made to Horsepasture Christian Church or to the SPCA of Martinsville and Henry County.
