Dorothy Haskins Smith

Dorothy Haskins Smith, 99, of the Kings Grant Retirement Community passed away Thursday, April 16, 2026. She was born in Windham, Connecticut, September 17, 1926, to the Heywood Douglas Haskins and Etta Bennett Haskins. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Marie Elayne Smith and a sister, Ruth Haskins LaVelle. She is survived by her cousins Sharon Hodges, Lisa Wood and Teresa Mayberry. She is also survived by two close friends, Nancy and Frank Hylton. Dorothy was a 1944 graduate of Martinsville High School and an honor graduate of Perry Business School. She attended the University of Delaware where she received her basic certificate from American Bankers Association, Institute of Banking. Dorothy also received her applied Banking major general banking diploma from the American Institute of Banking. She retired from Wilmington Trust Bank in Greenville, Delaware. Dorothy is a former employee of Kings Grant and was King’s Grant first retiree. She was a member of Forest Hills Presbyterian Church. A private graveside service will be held at Oakwood Cemetery and will be officiated by the Reverend Dr. J.D. Harmon. McKee-Stone Funeral Home, Martinsville, Va. is serving the family.
