Sylvia Anne Gentry Sakellaris

Sylvia Anne Gentry Sakellaris peacefully passed on April 19, 2026, at home surrounded by her family.

Sylvia was born on April 16, 1934, the daughter of James Forrest Gentry and Ethel Perkins Gentry, who predeceased her.

Sylvia married her late husband, Pete Harry Sakellaris, on April 25, 1954. Sylvia was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

The couple had five children: Harry P. Sakellaris, of Danville, VA; Joanne Sakellaris Thompson (Willy), of Denver, CO; Gregory J. Sakellaris, of Danville, VA; Laura Sakellaris Bayes (Mike), of Pittsylvania County, VA; and Allison Sakellaris Wann (Don Clemmons), of Greensboro, NC.

Sylvia had nine grandchildren: Kasey J. Sakellaris Engel, Emily B. Sakellaris (Jeffrey), Will W. Thompson (Edith), Rylee T. Thompson, Victoria A. Thompson, Hunter J. Squier (Elizabeth), Eric B. Squier (Becka), Courtney W. Foster, and Cayla N. Wann.

Sylvia had ten great-grandchildren: Delanie R. Engel, Dawson R. Engel, Addison N. Foster, Aiden C. Foster, Avery D. Foster, Chloe N. Wood, Noah C. Wann, Axell J. Squier, Bryson J. Squier, and Elena L. Thompson.

Sylvia was predeceased by her brother, Roland J. Gentry, and sister-in-law, Vonnie.

Sylvia is survived by her brother, Charlie L. Gentry, and sister-in-law, Marly.

Sylvia was also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Sylvia co-owned and operated, along with her husband, Pete, the Luncheonette Restaurant on North Main Street, Danville, VA, until their retirement in 1990.

A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at 2:00 pm at Mt. View Cemetery, Danville, VA, with Pastor Richard Motley officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a local charity of the donor’s choice.
