Velvet Allen Moore

Mrs. Velvet Allen Moore, age 83 of Ararat, Virginia, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Moore was born on July 6, 1942, in Carroll County, Virginia to the late Claude Swanson and Laura Ellen Harrell Allen. Velvet was a very special sister, aunt, and friend; who gave of herself to so many who entered her life. She was a very committed, hard worker in everything and every job she encountered; she loved singing at church with her sisters; and loved her pets immensely. Mrs. Moore will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Surviving is her sisters and brother-in-law, Mary Allen Sawyer and David, Betty Allen Mayes; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Allen; special nieces and nephews; her caregivers, Mary Saywers, Betty Mayes, Nicole Jenkins; and her three dogs, Tiny, Lola, and Buddy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Moore was preceded in the death by her husband, Winfred Moore; three sisters, Maxie Allen Rase, Cora Ann Allen Reynolds, Katie Allen; and brothers, Billy Allen, and Tex Allen. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 1, 2026, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jack Anderson officiating. Inurnment of the cremains will be held at a later date at Beulah United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will received friends on Friday, May 1, 2026, at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy from 1:00 PM until time of the service. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy has been entrusted with the arrangements.
