Robert Coles

Robert Thomas Coles, 77, of Martinsville, VA transitioned on Friday, April 24, 2026 at 1 Peacetree Drive, Axton, VA. He was born May 10, 1948 in Pittsylvania County, VA a son of the late William Thomas and Cleotilde Laguerta Coles. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Tilda Stuart and one brother, William T. Coles, Jr.

He was a U. S. Air Force veteran, the retired owner/operator of Coles Transport company and was a member of the American Legion Post 29 in Reidsville, NC.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Melva "Katie" Coles, of the home; two sons, Robert Allen Coles, of Charlottesville, VA; and Robert Tilghman Coles, of Martinsville, VA; two sisters, Cynthia Coles Hodge, of Martinsville, VA and Sheryl Coles, of Atlanta, GA; four brothers, Albert Coles, of Danville, VA; John F. Coles, James Coles and Martin Coles all of Axton, VA; and one granddaughter, Kairyn Coles, of Strassburg, VA.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 30, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Hines Funeral Services Chapel with Bishop James R. Perkins, officiating. Burial will follow in the Gravely Family Cemetery in Martinsville, VA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one half hour prior to the funeral and will be at the home at 323 St. John Circle, Martinsville, VA at other times.

A public viewing will be held Wednesday, April 29, 2026 from 1:00 to 5:00 PM at Hines Funeral Services.
