Grace Cocke Kendrick

Grace Elizabeth Cocke Kendrick, 93, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2026 after a brief illness. She was the daughter of the late Harry and Bertha Cocke and wife of the late Posey “P.J.” Kendrick.

Grace was a kind, funny and sassy spirit who would always take up for you. She was an awesome cook and made a delicious coconut cake. She loved going out for a morning biscuit or fried oysters for dinner. She retired from Verizon when it was C & P Telephone Company and they still had human telephone operators.

Grace was the 4th child of 8 children. She was predeceased by 6 of her siblings; Frank and Bobby Cocke, Shirley Fletcher Yeatts, Jeanette White, Helen Pleasant and Betty Groff.

Grace is survived by her sister; Cathern Wooten and a number of nieces and nephews as well as great and great-great nieces and nephews and special “granddaughter” Natalie Thornton Riddle.

She was loved and cared for the last 13 years by her niece, Tammy Fletcher Shelton, and nephew, Rocky Fletcher. She was also blessed to have her special caregiver of 6 years, Penny McGhee.

A Graveside Memorial Service will be held at a later date at Highland Burial Park, Danville, VA.
