Crystal Marie Foley Scott
March 22, 1939 - April 27, 2026
With a heavy heart but a confident hope, the family of Crystal Marie Foley Scott announces her passing on April 27, 2026. Although we will miss her presence, we find joy knowing she is walking in glory. Crystal is not gone; she has simply moved to a new address: Heaven.' — To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:8
Crystal, 87, of Bassett, VA, was born to John Roosevelt “Rose” Foley and Irene Massey Foley in the community of Elamsville in Patrick County on March 22, 1939. She was a woman known for her love of her family and the Lord. Crystal was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend who was deeply committed to serving Jesus and loving her family well.
In addition to her parents, she is reunited in Heaven with her husband of 60 earthly years, R.J. Scott, Sr.; brothers, James “Puddin” Foley, Lloyd Foley, Lester Foley, and Jim Foley; and, grandson, Raymond Scott Brown.
She is survived by her children, Pamela Brown and husband David France of Collinsville; sons, Randall Scott and RJ Scott, Jr., both of Bassett; grandchildren, Johnny Brown and wife Lauren of Stuart, Jason Brown and girlfriend Shelly Carroll of Axton; and, Amber Cox of Greensboro, NC; great-granddaughters, Sadie Brown of Axton and Rylann Cox of Greensboro, NC; sisters, Christine Elgin, Madge Bryant, Violet Spraker and husband Don, Margaret Burnett, Bonnie Stanfield, and Erma Jean Puckett.
Crystal was a devoted Christian who loved the Lord and sought to live her life in a way that honored Him. She was a faithful member of Fairway Baptist Church in Bassett, where she served as a Sunday School teacher and worked with many youths for over 25 years.
She graduated from Woolwine High School, then made a career and retired after more than 40 years at Bassett-Walker. Cooking and serving food to her family was one of Crystal’s greatest joys. She enjoyed the beauty of God’s creation and found joy in caring for her flowers and garden. Her gentle spirit, servant’s heart, and steady faith were evident to all who knew her.
Though her family and friends mourn her passing, they find comfort in the hope of Christ and in God’s promises. Her faith was steadfast, and her love will continue to be felt in the lives she touched.
Family and friends are invited to a viewing on Thursday, April 30 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Bassett Funeral Service. A celebration of her life will follow on Friday, May 1, 2026, at 3:30PM with Pastor Johnny Brown (grandson) and Pastor Kirk Montgomery officiating. Burial will follow at Ross Harbour Cemetery in Elamsville, Virginia.
