Axie Frey

Axie Frey, 87, went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 7, 2026. Those who preceded her: parents Will and Maggie Cox, 5 brothers, son James Harley Snell and husband James Frey all of Lafayette, IN. Left to miss her are daughters Georgia Barnett (Steve) and Eletha Miller of Roanoke, VA and sister Ruth Munger of Lantana, FL and sister Lucille Sutton of Lafayette, IN. Also 3 grandchildren and many great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Axie worked at Rea Magnet Wire in Lafayette, IN for 26 years.

At 55, as she was preparing for retirement, she started art classes beginning with oil, then acrylic, and then fell in love with watercolor. She has been painting and teaching ever since. In 2005 she was the 1st artist to move into Sugar Creek Art Center in Thorntown, IN. She won ‘Outstanding Floral Watercolor’ Award in the Hoosier Salon 83rd Annual Exhibition Indianapolis in 2007. Her art can still be purchased at Green Designs in Roanoke, VA.

Axie loved to travel and went to Greece, Italy, and France with artist friends and has been to Hawaii many times and Israel 3 times (the last time when she was 79!)

Service and interment will be in Tazewell, TN
