Rodney Cecil Gunter
Mr. Rodney Cecil Gunter, age 81 of Mount Airy entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at his home. Mr. Gunter was born on May 5, 1945, in Surry County to the late Charles Cecil and Hassie Ellen Gunnell Gunter. Rodney was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He worked for many years at Renfro Socks as a machine mechanic. Rodney was well known for his ability to work on small engines, running his own business. He also worked on automotive engines; where he developed a passion for vehicles. He loved helping people but most of all he cherished his time spent with his family. Rodney will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Surviving is his wife of 50 years, Kathy Murray Gunter; daughter and son-in-law, Stacey Gunter Westmoreland and Shane; son and daughter-in-law, Jason Gunter and Tracy; five grandchildren, Mikayla Tilley (Noah), Ethan Young (Allison), Sarah Young, Brady Gunter (Savannah), Meghan Gunter; three great-grandchildren, Rowan Guynn, Salem Stone, Sadie Gunter; two brothers and sister-in-law, Charles Glenn Gunter and Alita, Michael Gray Gunter, along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gunter was preceded in death by an infant brother. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jason Madison officiating. Interment will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy from 9:30 AM until the time of the service.
