Monroe Patterson
Monroe Wilson Patterson, Jr., age 74, of 309 E. Pennsylvania Street in Covington, Virginia died on Thursday, May 14, 2026 at his residence.
Monroe was born in Clifton Forge, Virginia on September 9, 1951 to the late Monroe Wilson Patterson Sr. and Lillian Larman Patterson. Monroe enlisted in the United States Navy where he served three tours in the Vietnam War aboard an L.S.T., the U.S.S. Vernon County. He worked as a B&B mechanic for CSX Transportation. Monroe was an avid fan of the Washington Commanders and NASCAR, and he enjoyed, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Joshua Andrew Patterson; and four sisters, Ona Persinger, Dorothy Southers, Jean Johnson, and Patsy Fleckenstein.
He is survived by his wife, Leona Dudley Patterson of Covington; a daughter, Amanda Burns (Randall) of Covington; two grandchildren, Lillian Ava Burns and William Andrew Burns; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 18, 2026 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Mr. Gary Stephens officiating. Interment will follow in Central Advent Christian Cemetery, Clifton Forge. Military rites will be conducted at the graveside. Pallbearers will be Randall Burns, Cameron Patterson, Jerry Vess, Jr., Larry Anglin Sr., Larry Anglin Jr., James Toth, and Brian Hall. The family will visit with friends on Monday afternoon from 12:30 PM until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home.
