Nancy Louise (Smith) Johnson
Nancy Louise (Smith) Johnson of Ferrum went home to her Savior on Thursday, May 14, 2026 at age 85. Nancy was born on May 3, 1941 in Parsons, WV to Hoye and Anna Louise (Heitz) Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Mary Susan (Smith) Fay. During her life, Nancy began her nursing career at Washington General in northwestern Washington, D.C. before relocating with her family to Franklin County in 1971. She worked for Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital in Rocky Mount for over thirty years, first as an ER nurse and later as a member of the auxiliary. She loved gardening, canning, cooking for her family, Southern Gospel music, and passing on her family stories to her children. She was a faithful member of Mill Creek Baptist Church in Henry, Virginia, and later of Prillaman Baptist Church in Ferrum where her husband pastored for six years. She leaves behind a legacy of service, dedicated prayer for her family, and helping others grow in their faith. Nancy is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Robert L. Johnson of Ferrum; a brother, Frederick Blake Smith of Belington, WV; a son, Robert B. Johnson (Katrina) of Fredericksburg; two daughters, Catherine Johnson Spence (Kenneth) of Ferrum, and Julia Anne Johnson of Ferrum; a beloved stepson, Herrick L. Johnson (Judy) of Altoona, PA; and a dear foster daughter, Kathy Gail Young (Steve) of Columbus, OH; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, a niece, a nephew, and several great-nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Flora Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, May 20 at 5:30 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 7:00 p.m. A funeral service and interment will take place at Buena Chapel, Canaan Valley, WV, on Friday, May 22 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Adam Spencer Memorial Scholarship at Christian Heritage Academy at chaknights.org/support-cha and selecting “Donate Today.” Donations may also be mailed to Christian Heritage Academy, 625 Glennwood Drive, Rocky Mount, VA 24151 and write “Adam Spencer Memorial Scholarship” on the memo line.
