Betty Myers Parnell

Betty Rebecca Myers Parnell, 85, passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2026. She was born on January 26, 1941, in Carroll County, Virginia, to the late Dewey Clarence Myers and Goldie May Bays Myers. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Lester Clayton Parnell; son-in-law, Gary Brown, brothers, Basil Myers, Vernon Myers, and Edward Myers; and sister, Shirley Martin.

Betty was a member and attended Collinsville Church of the Brethren. She worked in Quality Control for Sara Lee for many years. Betty was a simple woman who enjoyed bird watching, treating herself to some sweets, and her collection of Snow Babies. She loved fiercely and valued precious moments with her family. Above everything, she was a devoted mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her daughters, Rebecca Brown and Allison Walters (Joseph); son, Tony Parnell (Joann); sister, Barbara Surratt; grandchildren, Justin Brown (Blair), Brittaney Brown, Alex Walters, Brandon Walters, Conner Walters, Sarah Parnell, Beth Thakar (Manan), Renee Bryant, and Dale Bryant; and great-grandchildren, Bexley Brown, Averly Brown, and Carter Noble.

The family would like to extend their gratitude and appreciation to Mountain Valley Hospice and Betty’s loving caregivers, Kathy Stanley, Gracie Harris, Kitty Gleason, and Sarah Brown.

A Funeral will be held on Monday, May 25, 2026, at Collinsville Church of the Brethren, at 11:00 AM, with Pastor Roy McVey officiating. The family will accept friends one hour prior to the service. A burial will follow at Myers Family Cemetery in Hillsville, Virginia, at 2:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests be made to Myers Family Cemetery in Betty’s honor.
