Reinhard G.W. Hindenlang
Reinhard G.W. Hindenlang, 75, of Roanoke, passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2026. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Diane Rush Hindenlang; father, Wilhelm Hindenlang (Gertrude); mother, Dora Hupe; and brother, Detlef Hindenlang.
He is survived by his children, Linda Austin, Robert Hindenlang (Angela), Reinhard Hindenlang, and Leigh Anne Hindenlang; grandchildren, Ashleigh Russell (Tyler), Tyler Austin (Meghan), Emilie Hindenlang, William Austin, Gabriel Hindenlang, and Angus Hindenlang; great grandson, Evan Russell; many grandpets; best friend, Ron Davis (Angie); brothers, Uli Hindenlang (Simone) and Martin Hupe (Rita); and sister, Uta Poezevara (Jean Francios).
Reinhard was born in Friedrichshaen, Germany where he spent his early days riding his bike and had many adventures on and around Lake Constance. He always dreamed of coming to the “Americas.” Dad said he was so shocked, when he disembarked his plane at 12 years old from Germany to the USA, that everyone was not wearing chaps and cowboy hats like he had seen in the movies.
He graduated from Brookville High School in 1968. He was in the Audiovisual Club and installed the sound system in the High School that they still use today. He was always industrious and indulged in his curiosity for anything mechanical, an interest he held for his entire life. He was always dismantling or engineering something up until his final days.
Shortly after graduation, he met and married his wife of 50 years. They welcomed their first child, Linda, then Robert, Reinhard, and Leigh Anne. He later stepped in as grandfather and into the role of father to his granddaughter, Ashleigh. He was a proud and dotting grandfather to Tyler, Emilie, William, Gabe, and Angus. He especially enjoyed spoiling and scheming with his youngest counterpart – his great grandson, Evan.
Although he would never admit it, he loved fussing over and indulging over his grandpets: Boomer “Boo”, Walter, Peaches, and Mango.
Finally, he was lucky to gain his best friend, Ron Davis (Angie), whom he regarded as a brother.
The family will have a Celebration of Life at 6:00pm on Thursday, May 28, 2026 at Brookhill Baptist Church, 4725 Bandy Road, Roanoke, VA 24014. A Graveside Committal will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026 at 11:00 am at Virginia Memorial Park, 11490 Forest Road, Forest, VA 24551.
