Mildred "Millie" Shelton Beal

Mrs. Mildred “Millie” Shelton Beal, age 85, of Mount Airy, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2026, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. She was born in Surry County on November 1, 1940, to the late Frank Benton Shelton and Alice Adkins Shelton. Millie graduated from Mount Airy Senior High School and the North Carolina Baptist Hospital School of Nursing and dedicated many years of her life to caring for others as a registered nurse at Northern Hospital of Surry County. She was also instrumental in organizing Surry Medical Ministries, reflecting her deep commitment to serving her community. She was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church of Mount Airy and had a special love for animals, as well as a passion for helping anyone who crossed her path. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Legh Beal; her granddaughters, Catherine Beal Francis and husband Jordan, and Maggie Beal; as well as many dear friends and extended family members. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David James Beal; and her brothers, Gary Franklin Shelton and Michael Charles Shelton. A private inurnment will be held at Oakdale Cemetery. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Rachael Brooks officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Surry Medical Ministries 951 Rockford St. Mount Airy, NC 27030 and Surry Animal Rescue P.O. Box 981 Mount Airy, NC 27030.
