Nelson Raymond Tate

Nelson Raymond Tate Sr., 87, born on August 26, 1938 of 283 Hunting Hills Road, Danville, VA, passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2026 with his family by his side.

Nelson is leaving behind one brother; Ronnie Tate of Danville, VA; One Sister in Law; Shelia Crisp (Gary); of Eden, NC; one half sister; Joyce Merricks; one son; Nelson Tate Jr. (Mary Ellen); one daughter; Angela T. Roach (E.J.) of Unionville, VA; A good friend; Howard Smith; Four Grandchildren; James Roach and wife, Stephanie Graham and husband, Joseph Roach and wife, and Shelby Bucchi and husband; three step grandchildren; Lillian McKee, Landon Mckee, and Lawson Brandon; and 12 great grandchildren.

Nelson was preceded in death by his Father; Rueben Tate; Mother; Lessie B. Tate; Stepmother; Nannie Tate; Sisters; Nellie Amos, Geneva Gammon, and Elain Tate; Brother; James Tate; and his wives; Mary Tate Jefferson and Frances Tate.

Nelson farmed in Tobacco until 1984, then worked at Southside Manufacturing Plant until 1995 when health caused him to retire. He worked hard to make sure his family was well provided for. He was a good hearted man that would help anyone out that he could.

A Graveside Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2026 at 1:00pm with Ms. Cathy Roach officiating, at the Tate Family Cemetery, 283 Hunting Hills Road, Danville, VA 24540. At other times the family will receive friends and family at the residence.
