Waymond Phillip Dawson

November 11, 1941 - June 21, 2026

Mr. Waymond Phillip Dawson, Sr., 84 of Cana, VA, passed away at his home on Sunday, June 21, 2026. He was born in Carroll County, VA, November 11, 1941, to the late William “Will” Arlis Dawson and Stella “Iris” Leonard Dawson. Waymond was known in various roles and a man of strong work ethics. He loved people and strived to build friendships wherever he went. Waymond was a talented brick mason, woodworker, avid gardener, and cake baker. He was a faithful member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church where he sang in the choir and served as a deacon. He volunteered with the Cana Fire Department and Cana Rescue Squad for many years. He was a current member of the Ararat Ruritan Club and Willis Gap Community Center. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Diane Dawson of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Pam Rutherford of Cana; two sons, Phillip Dawson of Cana, and Danny Dawson of Ararat, VA; step son, Terry Lynn Davis; two grandchildren, Jonathan and Abby Goad, and Katrina and Shawn Gilley; two adored great grandchildren, Opal Gilley and Gus Gilley; sister, Rovetia Marion of Cana; twin brother, Raymond Dawson of Cana; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends. In addition to his parents, Waymond was preceded in death by his first love of 61 years, Josephine Bowman Dawson; daughter, Phyllis “Wanette” Dawson; an infant daughter, Pansy Faith Dawson; two brothers, Roland Dawson and Richard Dawson, and a son-in-law, Eugene Rutherford. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at 11:00am in the Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy with Rev. David Sechrist officiating. Burial will follow in the Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday night, June 24, 2026, at Moody’s from 6:00 until 8:00pm. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
