Shelby Scott Pace

Shelby Scott Pace (nee Scott), 89, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at the home of her daughter in Wake Forest, North Carolina. She was born on September 17, 1936, in Beckley, West Virginia. She was a resident of Martinsville and Ridgway, Va. She lived a life dedicated to her family, faith, and passions. Shelby was the beloved daughter of the late John Daniel Scott and Ruby Coleman Scott. She was also preceded in death by her husband, David W. Pace; her daughters, Pamela Pace Gatlin and Dorothy “Betsy” Pace; siblings, Alvin Scott, Rodger Scott and Joyce Scott Pulliam. A devoted mother, Shelby is survived by her daughter, Ann Pace Coler (Mike) of Wake Forest, NC.; step-grandchildren, Harrison Michael Coler (Kirsty) of Clayton, N.C. and Jordan Elizabeth Coler Rogers (John) of Monroe, N.C.; also 6 great step grandchildren. Her love for family was central to her life and brought her immense joy throughout the years. Shelby found great fulfillment in simple, yet profound joys such as gardening and sewing. She cultivated beauty with her hands-whether tending to flowers or creating something special with needle and thread. Above all else, she cherished time spent with her family. A woman of deep faith, Shelby was a member of Ridgeway United Methodist Church. She enjoyed a very successful career in the Henry County Public Schools where she worked for over 40 years and up until she was in her 80s. Shelby’s memory will be treasured by those who knew her. May her legacy of love and devotion bring solace to all who mourn her passing. A visitation will be held from 10:00 pm to 11:00 am on Monday, June 29, 2026, at McKee Stone Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am and will be officiated by Reverend Dr. J.D. Harmon. Interment will follow the service at the Pace Family Cemetery in Ridgeway.
