Joseph George Schuyler
Joseph “Limo Joe” Schuyler, 79, of Roanoke, VA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 30, 2026. It is with heavy hearts and profound love that we make this announcement. Joe leaves behind a legacy of wisdom, warmth, and cherished family memories. Born on June 29, 1947 in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of Joseph and Juanita Schuyler. Growing up in Philadelphia, Joe was a proud and honored Native American with the Oneida Tribe, always sharing the history and stories of the tribe at the reservation in Wisconsin.
Joe developed a strong work ethic and a deep passion for chauffeuring many of us around in the Limo business and driving the Rolls Royce. He brought people joy all over whether it be for a wedding, a concert, or just to bring grandbabies and great grand babies home after being born. He dedicated many years of his life to his career as a chauffeur, a role in which he was highly respected for his professionalism, reliability, and the quiet comfort he provided to all his clients. He had exceptional driving skills, extensive knowledge of the Roanoke area, as well as many other surrounding areas and states. He had the ability to make every passenger feel safe, valued, and respected as well as always ensuring someone's special day was just that... very special.
Beyond his professional achievements, Joe was known for his gentle patience, his love for sharing stories and capturing family moments through the years on his video camera...precious moments in time that we as a family all can hold close to our hearts and cherish forever the memories we all have shared throughout life with him. Whether he was busy or really didn't have the time he always made time for the people; especially those he loved. When he loved you....he loved big and you certainly could feel it. To his grandchildren, he was a teacher, a confidant, and a constant source of encouragement. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by the many life lessons he taught us, the "advice" he casually passed down, and the quiet strength he showed in everything he did.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Amos Schuyler and Juanita Louise Mienzer Schuyler; brothers, Richard Schuyler, Thomas Schuyler, and Bob Schuyler; and sister, Jean McKay.
Joe is survived by his daughters, Linda Shiflett, Darla Ray, and Alyssa Gailey; grandchildren, Brandi Kirk, Ashley Peters, Brittany Kirk, and Sierra Ray; great grandchildren; brother, Jack Schuyler; sister, Juanita Meller; special friend, Shirley Widener; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Good Samaritan Hospice for their loving care during this difficult time.
The family will have a Visitation on Friday, July 10, 2026 from 12:00 – 1:00pm at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke, VA 24019. A Native American Funeral Ceremony will follow at 1:00pm also at the funeral home, and then processing to Cedar Lawn Memorial Park for the burial.
