William L. (Bill) Schwemer
William (Bill) Levoy SchwemerMay 30, 1940 – June 30, 2026Bill was born on May 30, 1940 on a farm in Kenton, Ohio to parents Twylah Schwemer and Bill Senior, who tragically passed away in a car accident when Bill was a teenager. Graduating from Bowling Green State University in 1962, Bill went on to work at the Food and Drug Administration, where he rose through the ranks to eventually become the Assistant Associate Commissioner for Regulatory Affairs at the headquarters in Washington D.C. He retired after 30 years at FDA, receiving FDA’s Award of Merit in 1983, 1984, 1989 and 1994. After retiring from FDA, he became a regulatory consultant specializing in FDA policy and enforcement matters and then ended his career as a VP at Tri Tech Laboratories. Bill put his heart and soul into FDA work and was highly regarded by many government and industry officials alike. Bill loved to travel the world with his wife Barbara. He especially loved to visit Africa and Jamaica. He also enjoyed watching Virginia Tech football, skiing, boating and hanging out with friends and family on his dock at Smith Mountain Lake, and fishing at Elephant Lake, Minnesota, where he owned a cabin with one of his sons. Bill is survived by his wife Barbara Schwemer, his children Scott Schwemer (married to Beth Schwemer) and Brett Schwemer (married to Tawni Schwemer), his grandchildren Brad Schwemer, Lauren Fuller, and Bryce Schwemer, and his great grandchildren Bella and Lucas Schwemer, and Max, Kit and Thea Fuller.
