Jimmy Edward Rexrode
Jimmy Edward Rexrode went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 1, 2026, at the age of 90.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and three of his five siblings. He is survived by his devoted wife of 70 years, Doris; his three children, Eddie (Sheli), Georgia (Dean), and Terry (Larry); his five grandchildren, Jason, Daniel, Abbie, Russell, and Joseph; and his two great-granddaughters, Willow and Ella.
Born on March 20, 1936, in Highland County, Virginia, Jim graduated from Monterey High School in 1955. He built a life defined by hard work, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to his family, his community, and the people he served.
Jim proudly served for 11 years as a Virginia State Trooper and K-9 handler, protecting the citizens of the Commonwealth alongside his loyal canine partner, Casey. His service reflected the courage, dedication, and sense of duty that remained hallmarks of his character throughout his life.
Following his career with the Virginia State Police, Jim joined Blue Ridge Transfer, where his leadership, dedication, and strong work ethic earned him the position of Vice President of Personnel before his retirement in 1993.
Retirement suited Jim well. He found his greatest joy tending his farm, raising beef cattle and miniature horses, sharing morning coffee and stories with friends at the Quick-Ette, and quietly slipping cash into the hands of his grandchildren and great-granddaughters - a tradition they will always remember with a smile.
Above all else, Jim cherished his family. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a proud grandfather and great-grandfather, and a loyal friend. His legacy is one of love, generosity, quiet strength, unwavering integrity, and a life well lived. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
The family will receive friends for a celebration of Jim's life from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 5, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, 5731 Airport Road NW, Roanoke, Virginia.
