Granville Read Schofield
Granville Read Schofield Jr., 55, of Ferrum, Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on July 2nd, 2026, at his home, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on April 15th, 1971, in Gainesville, Georgia, he was the beloved son of the late Granville Read Schofield, Sr. and Bonnie Lee Hoffeld Schofield. Read is survived by his loving wife, Irene Ann Laud Schofield; his sons, Magnus Read Schofield and Noah Read Schofield; his daughter-in-law, Elise Schofield; his siblings, Brent, Kelley, and Kim; his stepmother, Lynn Parker Schofield; and many friends and family who he loved very much. Read dedicated 34 years of his career to Fleetwood Homes, where he served as the Production Manager and took great pride in both his work and the relationships he formed throughout the years. His exceptional work ethic, unwavering dedication, and natural leadership earned the respect of his colleagues and those he mentored. He genuinely cared about the people he worked alongside and led by example, setting high standards through his integrity, commitment, and willingness to always lend a helping hand. Above all else, Read cherished his family. He was a devoted husband to his wife Irene, whom he loved immensely, and a loving father to his sons, Magnus and Noah, who were his pride and joy. His greatest happiness came from spending time with his family and those he loved, sharing stories, offering advice, and creating memories that will be cherished forever. Outside of his family, Read was an avid outdoorsman. Some of his happiest moments were spent in his deer stand, enjoying the quiet of the woods during hunting season with his son, Noah, and his lifelong best friend, John Martin. Those treasured days created memories and traditions that will live on for years to come. Whether at home with his family, at work, or in the woods, Read’s passion for life was evident in everything he did. He will be remembered for his kind heart, unwavering strength, generous spirit, and the love and loyalty he showed to his family and friends. While our hearts are heavy with his loss, we find comfort in knowing that Read leaves behind a legacy of love, integrity, strength, and compassion. His values, wisdom, and unwavering love will continue to live on through his sons and in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. A Celebration of Life honoring Read will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 11th at Conner-Bowman Funeral Home, 62 Market Place Drive, Rocky Mount, Virginia, 24151. Read's family welcomes all who cared for him to join them as they celebrate his life, sharing memories, and honoring the remarkable legacy he leaves behind. Though he may no longer walk beside us, his love and wisdom will remain with us always. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know and love him.
