Thelma Dudley Pitman
Thelma Dudley Pitman, 77, of Lynchburg, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, July 4, 2026.
Born in Lynchburg on December 27, 1948, she was the daughter of the late James Dudley and Madeline Sanderson Dudley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Michael Harold Pitman; her grandson, Jesse Pitman; and her brother, Randy Dudley.
She is survived by her son, James Pitman and his wife, Sylvia; her brother, Jim Dudley and his wife, Barbara; her sister, Frances Robertson; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends who will cherish her memory.
Thelma spent her life working hard, but nothing was more important to her than her family. Her greatest joy was raising her sons and being the best mother she could be. She faithfully drove her son to baseball practices for years and rarely missed a game, always encouraging him from the stands. Her love was steady, selfless, and evident in everything she did.
She was also known for her kind and generous heart. Thelma never hesitated to help someone in need, whether it was a friend, neighbor, or even a stranger. Her giving spirit and compassion touched many lives and will be remembered by all who knew her.
She attended Harvest Full Gospel Church in Chatham, where her love for the Lord was an important part of her life.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Virginia Memorial Park with Pastor Bobby Waller officiating.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
