Johnny Lee Freeman
Johnny Lee Freeman, 83, of Mount Airy, North Carolina passed away at the Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home, Wednesday, July 15, 2026. Born September 21, 1942, in Surry County, to the late James Shields and Alma White Freeman. Pap retired as a mechanic from the NC DOT after 38 years of employment. He was a devout and faithful Christian who attended Mt. Vernon Baptist Church for many years. Although considered himself non-denominational, in recent years he attended Blues Grove Baptist Church. He found much joy in attending, singing, and testifying in church. His life truly exemplified what it was to be a Christian. Pap was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. A perfect role model for his son, Lee, he taught him what it was to be a man, how to work, hunt, and fish. He enjoyed gardening and riding his motorcycle. He was a part of the Wings of Glory organization, where he helped with many charitable bike rides. Pap left a lasting impression on everyone he met, he will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Left to cherish his memory is his son and daughter-in-law, Lee Freeman and Una; grandchildren, Tara Nicole Freeman, Christy Leanne Freeman, Christopher Lee Freeman, and Tyler Emory White; great-grandchildren, Chloe Dalton, Halina Dalton, and Emory White; brother, Tommy Ray Freeman; as well as many nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, his is preceded in death by his loving wife, Barbara Felts Freeman; and sister, Betty Lou Poindexter. The family will receive friends Friday, July 17, 2026, from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at Moody-Davis Funeral Service. A funeral service will be held in the Moody-Davis Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 PM, on Friday, July 17, 2026, with Rev. Gary Sawyers and Bro. Butch Spurlin officiating. Burial will follow in the Skyline Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Moody-Davis Funeral Service in Dobson, NC is serving the Freeman family.
