Ida Joanne Manns Brown

March 12, 1939 - July 25, 2026

Ida Joanne Manns Brown, 87, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away Saturday, July 25, 2026. She was born March 12, 1939, in Henry County, Virginia to the late William Manns and Catherine Merrimam Manns.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, June Woods; and brother, Charles Manns.

Joanne loved all holidays, flowers, and gospel songs. Joanne excepted christ at an early age and continues to be a member of Waterway Church of our Lord Jesus Christ. She found joy in celebrating every season and had a special way of making each holiday memorable for those around her. Easter meant hiding and hunting eggs, the Fourth of July meant grilling burgers and hot dogs for family and friends, Halloween meant sitting quietly on the front porch dressed as a ghost to surprise unsuspecting trick-or-treaters, and Thanksgiving always meant a table with plenty of food and room for anyone who wanted to join. At Christmastime, every corner of her home reflected the joy of the season, filled with decorations that created lasting memories for everyone who visited. Joanne was incredibly creative, artistic, and crafty, with a true green thumb that could make almost any plant thrive. She was also her husband, Curlee’s, faithful co-pilot on every adventure, always ready to hit the road and happy to go wherever life took them together. Above all, Joanne had a heart for children, loved them deeply, and was fiercely devoted to protecting and caring for her own.

She is survived by her loving husband, Willis Terry Brown; daughters, Vivian Brown, Ulanda Friday (William), and Wanda Bythwood (Ron); sons, Barry Manns, Mark Brown, Keith Brown, and George Price , Sr. (Dianne); sister, Jewel Manns; brothers, William Manns and Bobby Moore; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Thursday, July 31, 2026, at 12:00 Noon at Wright Funeral Service Bassett Chapel with Bishop Phillip Calloway officiating. Interment will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held one half hour prior to the service.
