Delbert Curtis Jackson
Delbert C. Jackson of Ridgeway, VA, entered into his well-deserved rest on July 28, 2026. Born in Ridgeway, VA on May 16th, 1945, the fifth of eight children, Delbert lived most of his life in Henry County, VA. Throughout his life he was a tireless worker and never stopped moving or doing. Whether he was stopping a train to sell blackberries, help his dad build houses, driving equipment in the military, working in mill or factories, driving semi-trucks around the country, taking care of his family and home, or outrunning the workers at the nursing home, he had a drive to always be working, active, and living.
He enjoyed life, spending time with family and friends and having fun. He had a great sense of humor, loved good jokes, and was an amazing cook. An earnest, simple, and hardworking man until the end. Like so many of his generation, he was filled with a resolve to get things done, overcome obstacles and difficulty, and face life head on no matter what. His faith in Christ was abiding and constant, though never loud and ostentatious. A firm believer who lived out his faith with actions more than words.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1967-1970 during the Vietnam War and was in country from 1968-1969 during the Tet Offensive. He was a specialist in the Third Armor attached to the 25th infantry. While his primary role was to drive and operate equipment, he would earn the bronze star for discovering an enemy weapon cache.
Following his military service, he would return to Henry County where he would meet and marry Dona Moore and share 49 years and a life together, raising two sons. Like so many people he would work hard to take care of and provide for his family while enjoying all he could from life. A loving husband, father, sibling, and friend, he is finally able to lay down all burdens, cease all labor, and truly rest.
Delbert C. Jackson was preceded in death by his parents, Delbert L. Jackson and Everlia (Knight) Jackson, siblings Donald Jackson, Patricia Compton, James Thomas Jackson, and Ronnie L. Jackson. He is survived by his wife of 49 years Dona M. Jackson, sons Phillip A. Jackson (Susan) and Delbert A. Jackson, two grandsons Jacob L. Jackson and Jacob T. Campbell, and siblings Flossie Spencer, Virginia Gale Robertson, and Howard Jackson.
Services will be at Collins McKee Stone Funeral Home in Bassett on Friday July 31st with visitation at 12 pm and services to follow, Rev. Michael Tabor officiating. Interment will be at Roselawn Burial Park. In lieu of flowers and in honor of Delbert, the family request that you spend those funds on doing something with your family.
