Barbara Gentry Conner

Barbara Gentry Conner, 93, passed away peacefully at her residence on August 8, 2026. Barbara was born in Pelham, NC on December 3, 1932 to the late Mary Ella McDowell Tate and the late Ollie Jack Gentry. She was also predeceased by her loving husband of many years, Mr. Ernest “Johnny” Reed Conner.

Barbara was of the Christian Faith. She worked for over 50 years as the owner/ operator of Something Else Clothing Store, previous to her retirement. She had a special love for her entire family.

Barbara is survived by a son; Ernie Conner of Danville, VA; three daughters; Kim Conner of Naples, FL, Kathy Vandenburg of Danville, VA, and Lisa Wells and husband Ed of Chatham, VA; six grandchildren; Jason Conner, Chris Conner, Cody Vandenburg (Julie), Conner Haskins (Patrick), Ginnie Hedrick (Jonathan), and Ryan Wells; six great grandchildren; Samantha, Eli, Elizabeth, Sutton, John, and Clay; her special honorary daughter; Jessica Fowlkes; and her loving caregivers; Eboni Lampkins, Mary Davis, and Elizabeth Pannell.

In addition to her parents and husband, Barbara was predeceased by a son; Howard Dale Conner; two brothers; Howard and Wayne Gentry; and a sister; Mary Berg.

A Funeral Service will be conducted on Wednesday, August 12, 2026 at 1:00pm at Norris Funeral Services, Mt. Hermon Chapel, Danville, VA with Pastor Myron Bruce officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park. A visitation will be held on the same day just prior to the service from 12:00-1:00pm also at Norris Mt. Hermon Chapel, Danville, VA. At other times the family will receive friends and family at the residence.
