George Alexander Pruner

George Alexander Pruner, Jr. went to be with the Lord in his Heavenly home on Saturday, August 8, 2026, while surrounded by his loved ones.

He was born in Lebanon, Virginia on August 24, 1950, and was incredibly proud of his Southwest Virginia roots. He graduated from East Tennessee State University in 1972, and afterwards, joined the United States Navy. He was honorably discharged in 1973. He had a long career as an independent insurance agent/broker and deeply valued his clients. George was a wonderful storyteller, and his laugh and smile would brighten your day.

Throughout his life he faced various health struggles, and he faced them with great courage. He was a two-time organ transplant recipient and was most likely the longest living liver transplant recipient in the state of Virginia, having lived 40 years post-transplant.

George loved the Lord and was a member at First Baptist Church Roanoke for over 37 years.

George was preceded in death by his parents, George A. and Pauline Gibson Pruner; and his two brothers, Dr. Robert A. Pruner and Joseph H. Pruner.

Those left behind to cherish his memory include his wife of 43 years, Susan A. Pruner; daughter Laura Pruner Coffey and husband, Eric; his precious granddaughter Charlotte Grace, whom he loved to call “Gracie;” his furry friend Snowflake; sister Jennie Smith (James Gooch); and many nieces, nephews, and special friends including Mary Lou Blevins, Brian Blevins, and Meredith Pastore.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Thursday, September 10, 2026, at 11 am at First Baptist Church Roanoke. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service.
