Charles Jason "Dino" Deane

Jason, aged 54, passed away peacefully at Good Samaritan Hospice House in Roanoke on August 10th, 2026 after a year long battle with cancer. During that year he remained determined to continue living his life as he always had, independent and with awesome fortitude.

He is survived by his mother, Nancy Deyerle of Salem; his sister, Charlotte Juarez of Kingwood, Texas; and two nephews and two great nephews.

Jason was most proud of having served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. While serving in various parts of the states and Iwakuni, Japan, he made friendships that lasted through the years and earned him his favored nickname, Dino.

Dino was an expert mechanic. He began his training as a toddler dismantling lawn chairs and continued as an aviation mechanic on FA18 fighter jets while an active Marine. After moving to the Salem area in 2004, he repaired heavy equipment at various Roanoke Salem businesses.

Jason felt he had a good life, had gotten to experience more than most, and tried to help others as best he could. He could be stubborn, hard-headed, and challenging at times, but his family and friends felt he exemplified the Marine motto, Always Faithful.

Visitation will be Saturday, August 15th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lotz Funeral Home, 1330 East Main Street, Salem. Interment to follow at Quantico National Cemetery at Triangle, Virginia on Tuesday, August 18th at 1:30 p.m.
