Hunter Dean Oakes

Hunter Dean Oakes, 12, of Ridgeway, Virginia, passed away Thursday, August 6, 2026, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia. He was born on September 20, 2013, in Greensboro, North Carolina, to Brandon Dean Oakes and Amanda Lynn Wolfe. He was lovingly raised by his MawMaw, Lori Cannon.

Hunter was a student at Fieldale-Collinsville Middle School. He filled his years with laughter, personality, and unforgettable moments that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Hunter loved the sounds of music, motorcycles, and Hot Rods, but some of his greatest joy came from simply being with his family. He especially loved his sister, Haylee, and shared a special bond with those closest to him. Hunter had a wonderful sense of humor and a mischievous spirit. His family fondly remembers how he loved giving kisses, and just when you thought the kisses were over, he would playfully bite you. These are the little moments that brought so much laughter and joy and will now become treasured memories.

Hunter leaves to cherish his precious memory his MawMaw, Lori Cannon; his Papa, Frank Moore, Jr.; his sister, Haylee Oakes; his uncles, Ryan Oakes (Ashley), Jeremy Gardner, Gary “Tommy” Davis, Jr.; his aunts, Leighanna Garcia (Antonio) and Jamie Bryant Payne (Parrish); his cousins, Cadance Oakes, Kayla Crandall, Alexis Crandall, Zaedyn Garcia, and Mateo Garcia,; and a host of other family members and friends.

Although services will be private, the family wishes to express their profound gratitude for all of the love, prayers, and many good deeds extended to them during this time of grief.
