Peggy Joyce Fitzgerald Johnson, 94, of Salem, VA, went to be with her Lord and Savior in the loving comfort of her family and home on August 12, 2026. Peggy's life was one of service to her family, her church, and her community. She is survived by her brother Ernie (Helen Jean); sons Mike (Connie) and Paul, daughter Doris (Dave); grandchildren Chris, Jeff, Bryan (Helen), and Devon (Michael); great grandchildren Eleanor Rose, May, Paul, Hailey, and Kevin; nieces and nephews Pat (Wendell), Terry, Brad (Susan), Linda (Bill), Kevan (Jayne), Laurie (Bobby), Dave (Barbara), Andy (Lorrie), Mark (Nancy), Tim (Tammy); special cousin Doris Hayes; sister-in-law Anne; and grand cat Ella and grand dogs Buck, Reid, and Jams. The family would like to express our thanks to all the family, friends, and church members for their visits, support, love, and prayers. We would like to recognize the excellent medical care provided to our mother for many years by UVA and Carilion. Also, we are grateful to Esther Farris and Tammy Jackson for their assistance as our mother's care needs increased in recent months. And last but not least, we want to express our deep appreciation to Good Samaritan Hospice for the outstanding care they provided to our mother and the support they provided to our family. A celebration of Peggy's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem with Pastor Dr. Heath Rickmond officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 AM until the hour of the service. In lieu of flowers, in memory of Peggy, donations may be made to the Salem Baptist Church Missions Fund or Good Samaritan Hospice. Psalm 23:6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
